On a cold winter's night, I love to snuggle under the soft comforter on my bed. I slowly drift off to sleep cocooned in warmth.
A few weeks ago, I felt a similar comfort from an unusual source, II Chronicles 3:10-13.
This Scripture passage talks about King Solomon building the temple. God's Word says: "In the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim, fashioned by carving, and overlaid with gold. The wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits in overall length: one wing of the cherub was five cubits, touching the wall of the room, and the other wing was five cubits, touching the wing of the other cherub... The wings of these cherubim spanned twenty cubits overall. They stood on their feet, and they faced inward."
So, you might ask, how is that comforting?
If you read back a few verses, you'll discover the size of the private innermost chamber of the temple, the Holy of Holies. It's length was twenty cubits, (A cubit is a unit of linear measure, from the elbow to the tip of the longest finger of a man. This unit is commonly converted to 0.46 meters or 18 inches.), and its width was also twenty cubits. The wings on these carved cherubim spanned the room. The angels faced inward forming something like a covering, surrounding the Ark of the Covenant - the mercy seat of Christ.
Encompassing... all encompassing. That's our God. That's His love for us!
As I thought about The Most Holy Place, I was struck once again with the incredible love God has for mankind that He would give His life for us. For those who trust Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, God surrounds us with His glory, protecting us; comforting us, yes even in times of trouble. Because of Jesus, we have access into the Most Holy Place!
Rest in Jesus today. Let His love and mercy enfold you like a warm blanket on a cold winter's night. There's no place like home!
Live the adventure,
Susan

Rest in the Lord. Funny that is the second time today I have typed this. Once for another blogger, and once here. This is a wonderful devotion.
Thank you
BTW be sure to back up your blog as you try on new jewels(templates) as you could lose your blog. When you are checking out new templates, there is a place on the top to do so. Also you could save your entire blog on a zip drive, as you would not want to lose all that you have written.
Take care and yes rest in the Lord
Jen
Hi ya Jen, yes, resting in Jesus, what a way to live, right my friend? I need that reminder, daily! I just backed up everything. Thanks for the reminder, my hubby has been asking me to do it for awhile. I always make a copy on a Word doc. first and back it up just in case :)
Amen to that Susan. I just read that passage yesterday which is when you wrote this post. God must be talking to us at the same time. Thanks for the explination. I would have missed that part.
Comforting indeed! Thank you for sharing your insight on that verse. What peace He offers through His protection! Thank you!!
What a sweet and comforting post. How thankful I am that I can rest in Jesus. There is no where else we can go and be safe. Thanks for these precious words, Susan. I needed to hear them today so that I would be lifted up to Him.
Rest in the Lord...that has been big in my life over the last few years and even today.
I did a study on the tabernacle last year and I love the reminder of the mercy seat and the expanse of God's love...thank you!
Hey...I love the photo of you in front of that incredibly beautiful and huge door...on the verge of another adventure?!
That's amazing. Can you imagine sleeping underneath those angels? Yet, we do. God sends His angels to guard us as we sleep. Very comforting. :)
You are right Susan. JHesus is our cleft on the rock. Our hiding place.
I love how you said "like a warm blanket on a cold day!" I can so relate to that! :)Some rest in the Lord sounds good.
Much love,
Angela

Kim, yes, He is our protector! Amen!
Maxine, praise our Lord! I'm so glad we can rest in Him!
Yes, Helen, praise Him for that mercy seat, eh?
And about that door on my sidebar Helen? Yes, it was quite an adventure. My hubby and I were on an anniversary trip in the Mts. of New York. There was still snow on the mountain in March and we hiked up some icy parts to get to that tower at the top. Oh, what a view when we climbed the tower!
The LORD is our strong tower - Proverbs 18:10!
Jan, incredible how God works, isn't it? It blows my mind!
Amrita, so true, He is our hiding place!
Yes, Angela, I love that rest. There's nothing like it in the whole wide world!
Angie, yes, the Holy Spirit is our Comforter!
