Power Source

What does it mean to have “God’s power?”
I’ve been racking my brain this past week trying to figure it out while learning Isaiah 40:29 for Memory Verse Monday. Isaiah 40:29 (NKJV) says, “He [God] gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might, He increases strength.”

It’s always a good idea to see the Biblical context of a verse, so I checked out the preceding verses in Isaiah chapter 40 that talk about God’s creative and sustaining power. God is the Creator of this world and outerspace. He spoke everything into existence and He keeps everything by His mighty hand. And He doesn’t get the least bit tired. That’s good news to me because the older I get, the more tired I am! And to think I was one of those awful children who never took naps… my poor Mom!

So, the next question I asked myself was, “How does God’s Almighty power affect my daily life? What does that creative and sustaining power look like?”

When I became a young widow raising my infant son at the age of twenty-five, I knew what it meant to be weak – physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. I didn’t know how I was going to make it, I only knew that my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ would make a way, and He did.

Fast forward seventeen years. It’s easy for me to forget about God’s sustaining power and begin to fret about the future. Often, I’m running ahead of the Lord and shifting into high gear, planning, scheduling, rescheduling wondering all the time, “How is God going to work all this out?”

But that’s just it. God doesn’t want us to figure it all out. Right before the Bible tells us that God gives power to the weak, the Bible says that God’s understanding is unsearchable! When my focus is on the problem and not the God over the problem, I am living in my own strength and not God’s strength. You see, God doesn’t promise power to the strong, He promises power to the weak. God doesn’t say He will increase strength to the mighty, He promises strength to those who have no might.

So I humbly admit once again, “Lord, I don’t know what to do or how to do it, so please show me the way. You know the needs of our family and the deepest needs of my heart. You are the One, the only one with all the power and might. There is none like You! Help me to wait on You and then as You reveal Your will, take the next step.”

What about you? What has God shown you about His power and strength? I’d love to hear from you on this subject.

Live the adventure,
Susan

“But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 NKJV

That constant battle of trying to take control and do it ourselves, figure it out ourselves. Getting "Self" out of the way truly is our biggest battle. Kinda of reminds me of the little child that jerks something out of the parents hands with an "I'll do it myself!!!" when the child can no way do so!!!! Been there done that!!!!!

Well Susan,

You know that I love this scripture...I do love that God never gets tired...it is a bit unfathomable...did I spell that correctly? But it is so encouraging because how would He give us strenth if His supply ever ran dry...what an all-encompassing Father...

Lately, I feel that God is creatively giving me new eyes to see my day to day life differently as well as to see His power within my life and circumstances...and for that I am truly grateful!

May God bless your upcoming week with His abundant resources and remind you of this as you celebrate Easter...

Love to you dear one,

Helen

The more desperate and weak I am, the greater He is. So, my prayer is to stay desperate for HIM. To allow HIS power to be "made perfect in weakness" (Rom 12:9). Thank you for your reminder of His greatness, our POWER SOURCE. Bless you Susan!

I am weak this morning. it is hard to believe that something as small as pollen can tackle a grown man. No medecine known to man can battle this one. I have to pray for strength. Thank you God for putting me in my place.

Hello, love this post - so true when I turn it over to HIM and don't try to take it back because I think I can do it faster or I know what needs done - my life is at peace - but wow how we try to tell HIM what needs done - we tell HIM what would be best in this problem.....that is when I feel fear - empty and alone. If I become still and know HE is there and HE knows what is best in HIS time in HIS way....I have peace - thanks for a great post.. and reminder... M

I love the image of the wind turbine, powered by the wind. 'Me Myself and I' are too often getting in the way of what God wants to do, I am sure. I try to work through problems, figure it out myself and worry - why does it take me so long to turn to the Lord? You truly have a gift with words to give the reader a better understanding. This was wonderful, and thank you for sharing your testimony too.

I love that.

I feel that God has been teaching me over and over that I can't do it on my own. I try and try, but fail everytime.
I need Him desperately.

Hi Denise, thanks for stopping. God bless!

Daughter of Annie, what a nice tribute to your mom with your blog name. I had a chance to stop by your site briefly and will visit again. And becoming still and knowing the Lord is God is so important :) Have a great week!

Hi Karen, yes I like that wind turbine too. I also like your thoughts on it :) Sometimes we do get in the way, don't we?

Sue, it's so easy to fall into that trap, isn't it? Praise God that He never gives up on us.

Hello Monsoon-Dreams, thank you. I'm glad you've stopped by and yes, you are welcome to link to here. I agree with those twists and turns, but it's all part of the journey. One day the journey will be over and what matters the most is that we know our destination. When we trust Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we're on our way home to Heaven, a real place with streets of gold.

Thank you for this reminder that we need to depend on God and not ourselves. I'm facing a problem...where I have been praying alot...but depending on myself for the answer.

I will re-give this over to the Lord.

Thanks.

When we accept Jesus into our lives we are inviting God/Jesus/Holy Spirit to dwell within us. We then are endowed with all the power that God himself attains. Not by ourselves, but we are the vessel in which the Holy Spirit works. That is why we have the power, THROGH OUR SPEECH, to bring life or death to ours or someone elses life. God 'spoke' and it happened, that is what He wants us to do. Proverbs tells us there is life and death that comes from the mouth. We can bring healing into our lives, we can bring blessing into manifestation, we can also bring 'crisis' into existence. I think that is what it means to have God's power.

Susan Kelly Skitt said...

Sharon, yes, depending on the Lord is the key.

Hi Lori, yes I believe He will give us His power to speak. The Lord does dwell within those who have accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. As we empty ourselves of self, we can be more fully filled with the Holy Spirit. I'm not saying we get more of God, but we allow the Holy Spirit to more fully work in our lives. So in thinking on your comment, I do believe as we fill our hearts with the Words of the Lord through the Bible, He will more fully be able to show us His power in our daily lives. Thank you for your words. God bless.

even as Jesus said, "Of myself I can do nothing, I do only what I see the Father doing" He lets us try though until we come to the end of ourselvesand then we are ready to let god take over.
